Recipe

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C (fan 180°C, gas mark 4).
  • Line 2 baking trays with baking parchment.
  • Cream together the butter, brown sugar, and caster sugar until pale and fluffy.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract, then mix together well.
  • Sift the flour and salt into the egg mixture.
  • Mix thoroughly until a soft dough forms.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips.
  • Break off walnut-sized pieces of dough and roll into balls.
  • Place on the baking sheets leaving space between them.
  • Bake for 8 minutes for a gooey cookie, or 11 minutes for crunch.
  • Leave to cool on the trays for about 10 minutes then transfer to a cooling rack.
